This semester I decided to take Photography 1 because I really wanted to learn darkroom techniques. It’s interesting taking a step away from the LCD screen, I find myself out of habit chimping an imaginary screen. Using an iPhone lightmeter probably isn’t the best way to go about things either. Giselle came over today to help me out with my first project. I feel like a semester’s worth of Tri-X is going to have some sway on what you’ll be seeing in this blog. I’m going to be processing that first role of Tri-X this week and I’m actually a little nervous about it all. Paulo tagged along and snapped an action shot while we were standing out there in some serious skin biting cold.

Timescapes Timelapse: Mountain Light
Timelapses may not always be the most exciting thing. But, I can’t lie I love them. When I first saw Planet Earth my brain exploded. Years condensed into minutes. Haters can hate, but I enjoy watching these. I found this epic timelapse on Vimeo. It was shot using a 5D Mk II and what must have be some crazy platform equipment. Again, this is a must see in HD. Sick.

The last three years I’ve come a long way in regards to Wedding Photography. I started out as an intern working under the skill of a veteran in the game, only recently have I made my foray into shooting weddings solo. This said I don’t at all consider myself “experienced” or to have earned any sizable amount of respect from those making a living on this expertise. However, I feel like I am making quality strides in the right direction. Looking back at the weddings of 2009, there is a distinct evolution in my style. I spent my time fumbling with my camera wanting only the best L lenses, then there was the period where I decided to put a urine filter over my images, and there was the time when I had white card stock rubberband-ed to the tip of my flash. From too little Photoshop work, to too much Photoshop, the use of actions and filters and the such. I finally feel like things are beginning to settle.
What a variety of choices to make. One thing I enjoy though is that there is a constant progression in my work. More often now instead of making 180 turns in style and consistency, I tend to adapt my efforts and incorporate things I want to try instead of the good old cut sling load. I like this method so much better than what I have been doing, keeping what I know I like and introducing something experimental. A lot of this sounds like a whole pile of gibberish, at least to me. Gotta’ keep shooting.
